Reflection on TLM1010

The goals I had in mind at the start of this course were to be confident in myself while presenting as well as using proper English when interacting with the people around me. My first trimester was quite a rollercoaster ride. I learnt a lot of things that had benefited me a lot in a short period of time. Now, I am confident when interacting with people. When asked to do a pitch or share information, I can do so without getting nervous. Of course, there are still areas for improvement. With this, I gained knowledge and experience when working with different people.

When we were told that we have to choose a product for the presentation, I was excited yet nervous as I had to work with different people. Nonetheless, I am thankful that my group mates are easy to work with even though disagree at times. We managed to work together and present a good presentation. Even though our team was not selected for the showcase, I felt that it was still a good opportunity for me to know what my team and I are lacking, and I appreciate all the efforts they had put in to make this a great learning experience.

The presentation showcase was an eye-opening experience. I find that the products selected for the showcase were very interesting and relevant. I observed that presenting with correct body language, proper usage of words and the flow of the presenters play an important role. This is so that they could catch the audience’s attention easily. Through this, I can take away valuable experience and lessons and improve myself in the future.

It includes high-tech features and on-board computer that guides users throughout their journey thus making driving easier. The on-board computer informs them about the car condition as well. BlueSG’s interface operating system is used s to navigate and show information or alert notifications.

Unlike other car-sharing companies, BlueSG stands out from the rest as BlueSG is the only car-sharing service that is an electric vehicle and provides flexibility and convenience for user to use.

The speciality of Bluecar is that it contains a revolutionary Lithium Metal Polymer (LMP) battery that does not give outgases or consume zero petrol or diesel. LMP technology provides unrivalled autonomy and excellent performance in all types of weather. This gives them numerous advantages, particularly in terms of safety. It can travel up to 200km on a single charge. Furthermore, with solid component design, it is one of the safest batteries on the road. LMP batteries have an exceptional life span and because the technology is based entirely on non-polluting materials, which means it is not harmful to the environment. Once the battery reaches its lifespan, it can be recycled or reused.

Another important feature is safety. According to the BlueSg website, the Bluecar is fully equipped with airbags, power steering and audible alert to warn pedestrians that an electric car is approaching. A key factor that makes BlueSG a competitive edge over its competitor is rent accessibility. Users need to download the BlueSG application. They can choose to receive a BlueSG member card or paired with their ez-link card. Drivers are required to upload their driving licence and credit or debit card. Unlike other car-sharing rental services, they need to head down to the company and go through paperwork. Sometimes these company might be situated at one location which may not be convenient to the drivers. Furthermore, BlueSG is a one-way car sharing where users can park at the charging port which they can reserve earlier at any locations. Also, BlueSG operates 24/7, seven days a week and have access to 1,000 cars island-wide. Therefore, BlueSG provides solutions to those drivers who do not own a car at anytime and anywhere.

In conclusion, BlueSG would be a top pick in the car-sharing services as it brought Singapore one step closer to a more sustainable and efficient transportation system. To add on, BlueSG provides rental accessibility, safety and it contains an excellent battery that makes it stand out from the rest. With these advantages, I believe that BlueSG will contribute greatly to society and make a great impact on the environment in the long run.

#Draft 2: Product summary & analysis

BlueSg

According to the BlueSG website (2019), BlueSG offers smart car-sharing and affordable, accessible transportation to all Singaporeans. BlueSG users will have access to a network of 1,000 shared electric Bluecar vehicles, available 24/7, around Singapore. Users can return the car at different locations. Furthermore, they do not need to bear the expense of maintenance or insurance. Therefore,  this shows that BlueSG provides convenience and flexibility to the user.

In collaboration with Bollore Group, Singapore signed a contract that supports public transport policy, through the creation of alternative and eco-friendly transportation solutions to a motorized vehicle. This collaboration brought Singapore one step closer to a more sustainable and efficient transportation system. Thus, making Singapore the largest Electrical Vehicles (EV) car-sharing service worldwide after Paris. BlueSG aims to create approximately 250 jobs in Singapore by 2021.

Also, with solid component design, it is one of the safest batteries on the road. LMP batteries have an exceptional life span and because the technology is based entirely on non-polluting materials, which means it is not harmful to the environment. Once the battery reaches its lifespan, it can be recycled or reused.

Another important feature is safety. According to BlueSg, “They are equipped with airbags, power steering and audible alert to discreetly warn pedestrian that an electric car is approaching”. Bluecar has a built-in international standard called (ISOFIX), which are attachment points for child safety seats in passenger cars, which are compatible car seats for children. Also, “A 24/7 assistance is available either by phone or by pressing the “BLUE” button to be connected to their call centre with the in-car-speaker system.” Additionally, there are high-tech features installed such as an on-board computer that guides users throughout their journey at ease as well as informing them of the condition of the car. BlueSG’s interface operating system helps to navigate and show informational or alert notifications.

There are advantages to using BlueSG. Firstly, users can enjoy cost savings when travelling in a group that is heading in the same direction instead of taking private hire cars or cabs. Secondly, Bluecar is an ideal solution for families as if you are in a group of five, for example, it can fit everyone. Thirdly, when driving in smooth traffic, the price of renting it will be cheaper since they will be charged by the minute.

However, there are disadvantages to using BlueSG as well. Firstly, users should avoid taking Bluecar during peak hours or traffic jams as they will end up paying more than they should compare compared to private hire cars or cabs. Secondly, there are specific places to park the Bluecar, therefore, there are factors in travelling to and from the charge points as it is not accessible to everyone. Thirdly, users might not be able to get their hands on the car, since the supply is quite limited at the moment.

For these reasons, while there are many similar car rental services, I believe that BlueSG has provided good services to the users as it caters to everyone. Also, it is an environmentally-friendly. Therefore, BlueSG should be users’ primary choice in car sharing.

Introduction email

Self Introduction

Dear Mr Brad,

I am writing this email with the intention to introduce myself as a student in your Technical
Communication class. My name is Nur Amirah Ilyana, an undergraduate who is pursuing a degree
in Telematics in Singapore Institute of Technology. I graduated with a diploma in Electrical
Engineering with Eco-Design from Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP).

My curiosity began during my internship in a company that deals with electronics. I conducted several tests with their robots. For example, "lift testing" whereby the robot was programmed in such a way that it will be able to detect lift doors and enter without using any controls. It was an amazing experience. From then on, I realised that this innovation is important. It makes me want to learn new things and want to invent things that will be useful in the future. Furthermore, this is one of the reasons why I chose telematics as it contains electrical engineering and information technology, skills that will help me pursue my goals.

Regarding my communication strengths, I am able to work well in groups and I am not shy to share my ideas. I am willing to hear everyone's opinions and take everything into consideration.

However, my weakness is that I have difficulty with presentations. I tend to avoid eye contact with the audience and lose composure. I have difficulty in communicating with the people around me as my language is not good.

My goals for this course are to be confident with myself while presenting as well as interacting with people around me. I look forward to your technical communication classes.

Sincerely,

Nur Amirah Ilyana
